Love Food 2016 – Barton, Cambridge (UK)

Burwash Manor in Barton, Cambridge was the place for lovers of food and drink over Valentine’s weekend, 13 and 14 February 2016. Love Food, the annual fabulous festival of food, was hosted by Burwash Food Hall, which includes The Larder and Leech & Sons Master Butchers. It was a great way to showcase local independent producers, some of which were already firm favourites, but I also discovered new ones too. It was good to meet the people behind the products they are so dedicated to making. These independent producers really put their heart and soul into their food or drink products and it shows. The proof is in the taste!

I celebrated all weekend and enjoyed tastings and demonstrations by The Larder’s suppliers. They were held in The Secret Garden marquee, a lovely space with lots of room to explore the various stalls.

Grub Club Cambridge British Food Fortnight at The Larder at Burwash Manor – Barton, Cambridge (UK)

Grub Club Cambridge celebrated British Food Fortnight at Burwash Manor’s The Larder on 22 September, 2015. British Food Fornight, organised by Love British Food, is the annual national celebration of British food and drink.

“Since its beginnings in 2002, British Food Fortnight has become THE opportunity for those who work in any aspect of food and drink, to come together and promote the benefits of buying and eating from our home produced British larder.” (Official Website)

However, it wasn’t the only celebration that evening… founders Kelly Molson and Vhari Russell marked Grub Club Cambridge’s first birthday. I wish them many more years of success!

Provenance at Burwash Manor – Barton, Cambridge (UK)

Provenance, a mobile purveyor of seasonal, restaurant quality food, operate from a stunning vintage Airstream caravan that’s been converted into a kitchen with wood fired oven. I attended their launch party earlier this month (I wrote all about it here) and I was so impressed by the food and drink that I vowed to follow their whereabouts for my next Provenance craving.

Burwash

On Saturday 11 July, Provenance served up delicious food at Burwash Manor, located in the village of Barton, about 5 miles from Cambridge. Provenance’s gleaming Airstream caravan looked right at home amid Burwash Manor’s lovely independent shops, including foodie haven The Larder in its Food Hall.

Burwash Manor is situated on a working organic farm where they grow produce and rear their own rare breed pigs. Dynamic Organics, a three-acre market garden on the farm, use biodynamic principles to grow a variety of vegetables many of which were featured in Provenance’s Burwash menu, such as spring onions, rainbow chard and new potatoes.

foodPark NIGHT MARKET on 14 February, 2015 – Barton, Cambridge (UK)

foodPark NIGHT MARKET, a pop-up night market featuring the best of Cambridge street food, was held on 14 February, 2015 at Burwash Manor. It was part of Burwash Food Hall‘s Love Food festival. With so much love in the air, it was only fitting to have foodPark’s very first NIGHT MARKET on Valentine’s night.

The evening’s focus was LOVE… mainly love for street food, all freshly prepared by the carefully-selected traders that form part of the foodPark collective, founded by Heidi White who has been instrumental in promoting street food in Cambridge.

“Street food markets are for wandering around, taking in the sights and smells, for tasting, sharing, anticipating food cooked “just-so”, and experiencing something different from your usual idea of eating out. But please remember the NIGHT MARKET *is* different from a usual restaurant, pop-up dining experience, or supper club. It is a market, it is not somewhere where reservations are taken, and here at foodPark the food and drink is THE main attraction.” (Official Website)

foodPark NIGHT MARKET featured some of the best street food traders in Cambridge. I’ve tried each and every one of them at various foodPark locations and they are all amazing. Serving up tasty food and drink on the night were: Steak & Honour, Churros Bar, Fired Up Pizza, GoGo Gogi Gui, Buffalo Joe’s, Tin Kitchen, Warming Your Cockles Coffee Co. and Guerrilla Kitchen. Oh, and let’s not forget the foodPark Bar, operating from a stunning Airstream caravan!

Love Food 2014 – Barton, Cambridge (UK)

Love Food, Burwash Manor‘s “fabulous festival of foodiness” was held on 15-16 February, 2014 at Burwash Food Hall and The Larder. I love events like this as they’re perfect for discovering a variety of new products.

It’s always exciting to see what independent food producers are concocting in their kitchens and how they bring their ideas and products to fruition for the enjoyment of food enthusiasts like me.

It’s also a rare opportunity to interact with the producers and for me, the best part is hearing them talk passionately about their products. I can’t help but admire people who have the strength, drive and determination to set up their own food business… and they all do it because they love food and want to share their products with the world.
