The Three Horseshoes is a cosy independent pub in the village of Stapleford, just a few miles south of Cambridge. It changed hands a few months ago. The previous owner (Chris) introduced a Greek menu in 2019 and the new owners (Duncan and Justine) continued with the popular Greek menu.
This charming pub is a great spot to get together with friends. The four of us shared a selection of tasty starters:
Trio of Greek dips with pitta – we chose houmous, tzatziki and melitzanosalata (roasted aubergine).
Lightly coated and fried calamari, served with a dill and lemon mayo.
Octopus carpaccio, served with a tomato, chorizo and caper salsa.
Greek sausage selection – chargrilled pork sausage and a spiced beef sausage, served with tzatziki.
Our delicious mains included:
Moussaka – lamb ragu, aubergine and potatoes in a herb and tomato sauce, topped with bechamel and served with a fresh Greek salad and garlic pitta.
Greek fried coley – a white fish in a red wine vinegar and paprika batter, served with fries, minted broad beans, lemon and caper sauce.
King prawn saganaki – orzo with king prawns cooked in a tomato, ouzo and feta sauce with a hint of chilli, served with rocket.
For dessert we all had pistachio baklava with mint tea.
They have a great selection of beers and a wine list that includes a couple of Greek wines.
The pub is open 7 days a week, with the kitchen only open Wednesdays to Sundays at specific times (check times online).
It’s a popular place so booking is advised. There is a separate dining room that is quieter than the bar area. They have their own car park where parking is free.
Dinner at The Three Horseshoes is based on my experience at my own cost and I did not receive compensation for my review.
