Wonderful Turkish café Botany Foodie at No. 172 Mill Road sits at the corner of Campbell Street in Cambridge.
The pretty floral arrangements outside and inside draw you in but the friendliest welcome – which includes samples of turkish delight – makes you stay!
At Botany Foodie they are more than happy to go through the menu and answer any questions about the dishes.
The sesame-laden Istanbul Simit is a must! It’s reminiscent of a bagel or pretzel but it’s in a league of its own. Served warm, we enjoyed it with the feta option.
Their variety of sandwiches include the Botany Kofta Special – kofta in their special bread with melted cheese and chilli sauce. So good!
Lahmacun is on the menu! It had quality toppings (beef mince, onions, peppers and tomato) with a good amount of spice. This thin flatbread is slightly crisp to make it easy to fold or roll – to suit your eating preference.
Their small side salads are fresh and tasty. I recommend having one with your sandwich and lahmacun (they can even serve it rolled with the salad inside).
The Turkish Coffee was an experience! The strong coffee is served with a bowl of candied chickpeas as well as a glass of water (complete with dried rose petals) to cleanse your palate… all beautifully presented on an ornate tray.
The Turkish Tea was served in its iconic tulip-shaped glass. My favourite tea!
We enjoyed our hot drinks with candied peanuts. They are addictive!
Botany Foodie is a small space with counter seating, a few tables inside + more outside – so it’s best to go at off-peak times if you’re not getting your food to go.
The shop specialises in nuts and dried fruits. It’s a treasure trove of delights from Türkiye!
Lunch at Botany Foodie is based on my experience at my own cost and I did not receive compensation for my review.
